We are pleased to celebrate this month’s winner and to highlight their artistic practice. To offer deeper insight into their creative journey, inspirations, and process, we have prepared a short interview below.
What was the reason for you to start making art?
I’ve been drawn to art and creativity ever since childhood — which I think is true for many people. However, I didn’t fully commit to painting until after graduating with a design degree. I realized that a career in design would mean constantly working to someone else’s brief, so painting became a way to counterbalance that. From that point on, I’ve painted or drawn almost every day.
How did you find your artistic style?
I’m not entirely sure I ever consciously found it. I’ve been painting continuously, and over the years my style naturally evolved into what it is today. It’s still changing and often depends on the medium I’m working with. I imagine that over the next few years, I’ll gain an even clearer understanding of what I want to paint and how I want to express it.
What inspires you in life?
Everything. Music, literature, art, my family — all of it has an influence on me. No matter the source, inspiration always finds its way into my creative process.
Are there specific characters in your work, or is it pure imagination?
Most of the spray-painted figures are closer to self-portraits than anything else. Throughout the process, they warp, shift, and evolve until they become almost unrecognizable.
