We are pleased to celebrate this month’s winner and to highlight their artistic practice. To offer deeper insight into their creative journey, inspirations, and process, we have prepared a short interview below.
What was the reason for you to start making art?
I started making art as a child by copying my dad. It was my way of meditating, without questioning what I was doing.
How did you find your artistic style?
I started with calligraphy and considered myself a failed artist because I was bad at drawing, especially at copying realistic subjects. Traveling allowed me to discover many ethnic techniques, such as Aboriginal, African, and Berber cultures, which deeply shaped my style. I usually start painting in my head before touching the surface, through observation, research, and reflection on the subject I plan to paint.
What inspires you in life?
Artistically, I am passionate about travel. I think it is the best source to stimulate imagination and inspiration.
What do you want to tell people with your paintings?
I enjoy painting complex, enigmatic subjects and letting people create their own interpretations. I don’t have a specific message to convey, but I like making people happy when they see my art.
